Pierre-André Valade conductor
The title Dulle Griet refers to a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder: “Mad Meg” is a charachter form Flemish folklore who personified the shrew, the woman giving free rein to her anger. Also, the recording’s atmosphere is quite electric and bruitist, the sound of the instruments is often almost unrecognizable, with numerous very fine passages, barely audible, alternating with very agitated noisy sequences, saturated and loud.
A strange music open to the imagination. [Pierre Michel]
