Silvana Torto - mezzo-soprano

Born in Chieti,she trained and qualified as a singer at Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice and gratuated with honours at the Cà Foscari University, Venice, thesis on the vocal works of Gyorgy Kurtag. Highlight of her musical profession was meeting Luisa Castellani, with whom she developed the twentieth century and contemporary vocal repertory, completing both diplom of ecxellence and soloist diploma, respectly with distinction at Luagno Music Conservatory. At the same time she has enhanced her passion for early music, by taking partr in medieval vocal seminars held by Claudia caffagni and jill Feldman, and studying the baroque repertoire under the guidance of the soprano Rossana Bertini.
In 2000 she was guest at the Venice Music Biennial as lied singer for the première operas of Luca Mosca and Mauro Lanza. She has worked with several chamber formations, such as the Echo Ensemble Berlin, the Ensemble Novecento e Presente, the Divertimento Ensemble and the Laboratorio Novamusica of Venice, under the guidance of Giorgio Bernasconi, Sandro Gorli and Pietro Borgonovo, performing as soloist in many European cities and in Mexico at the Cervantino Festival.
She has been activly collaborating with contemporary composers like Stefano Gervasoni, Alessandro Solbiati, Luca Antignani and Gualtiero Dazzi. Her repertory also includes German “Lied” (studied along side Prof Hans-Joachim Beyer) and French “mélodies”.
She has been doing duets with the classical percussionist Luigi Gaggero from many years and whit the harpschordist Stefano Molardi in the baroque repertoire.
At the moment she is singing teacher at Strasburg Music Conservatory and Italian phonetics teacher at Lugano Conservatory.
